授業概要 |
In this course, in order to acquire full-fledged basic English skills, students read high-quality English texts from Department of English, The University of Tokyo (ed.) (1993) The Universe of English, etc. We develop classes, while considering with students deep questions such as "what are texts," "what is interpretation?", etc. In each class, English paraphrasing is used as a basic method to highlight the meaning and messages of texts, and Japanese translation is used as little as possible. We value active interactions in English in this course. Concerning the content of a text, students are therefore given questions in English, and are asked to answer in English. We give to students both mid-semester and final examinations. These two exams are face-to-face written tests. (Bring your copy of course texts to the exams. Paper and electric dictionaries can be used. However, the use of mobile devices such as PCs and smartphones is prohibited. ) |
